The Pelican Family
Steve’s and my story has always been somewhat unbelievable. As you know, two of our three daughters were born with a disease that takes the lives of children. We refused to accept that grim fate and poured ourselves into supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission: to find a cure.
Although there’s still no cure, Sam and Libby are in their 40s and thriving thanks to new drugs developed. Sam has shifted her work as a therapist to founding a social impact company called “We Hate Exercise” that promotes activity in individuals most needing it. Libby bought a pop-up market and now host events several times per year featuring hundreds of local artisans.
Our story became even more unbelievable with the devastation of Steve’s unexpected passing in April 2025 and my out of the blue diagnosis of brain cancer less than a year later. Despite my best attempts to avoid burdening the girls, they have lovingly taken on my caregiving. That said, during hard times our family has always tried to shine our light beyond the tears and pain.
Today, we are working as hard as ever to support the mission of the CF Foundation. A cure is no less important now than it was when Sam and Libby were born. Hanna and her husband are deeply involved and rally an army of their friends for every fundraiser. Ben has become a board member for the CFF Rocky Mountain Chapter to increase his impact and represent the family.
From speaking at events to writing checks ourselves, we do everything possible to move closer to a cure. That is what brings us back to you again this year. That said, we simply ask you to believe in a cure, with us.
If you are able to give again this year… please know we are truly grateful. The next part of our story is as of yet unwritten but with you by our side, we feel tremendous hope for a happy ending.
