Dear Family and Friends,
Greetings from the Jay-Stephens-Ballinger family! We hope this finds you and your families healthy and safe.
Last year at this time we were preparing for Country Fixins', our Beholder: Dine to Donate fundraiser, and The Purple Tie Ball. We are so thankful to you for your support and generosity over the years. We'd like to provide a current update on the remarkable progress being made in the fight against cystic fibrosis (CF) and the significant needs that remain.
Obviously, this has been a trying time for all of us. Those suffering from CF are especially susceptible to the covid-19 virus. Fortunately, a highly effective therapy for the underlying cause of CF, Trikafta, was approved in October 2019 and has changed the lives of almost 90% of the CF population. As of yet, we have no data to support what effect Trikafta has had during covid-19, but we can most assuredly assume it has saved lives.
Despite this remarkable progress, the search for a cure continues, and the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation remains the same: to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives.
To that end, the Foundation has committed a half a billion dollars to its “Path to a Cure” initiative. This initiative challenges potential collaborators to accelerate the pace of progress in CF drug discovery and development. The Foundation intends to allocate this $500 million from now through 2025 to aid this effort.
And, on the local front, we are thrilled to announce that, for the first time, two local CF families have offered to match up to $40,000 for the Indiana Annual Fund Campaign. This is our opportunity to compensate for a “lost year” of fundraising.
Our family cannot thank you enough for your support of Laura, our family, and extended CF community. Laura lives a life we never dreamed of. That story is true for thousands of others, who live longer, fuller lives because of this Foundation.
